The polymorphism of Igf2 gene in different breeds of pigs in Byelorussia was studied. It was observed that the frequency of the desired allele Q of Igf2 was 0.75-0.98 in boars of Landrace, Duroc and Yorkshire breeds and 0.34-0.36 in boars of Byelorussian Large White and Belorussian Meat breeds. The effect of allelic variants of Igf2 on the feeding and meat qualities of Byelorussian Large White pigs was observed. The young boars born from the fathers with QQ and Qq genotypes were characterized by the significantly higher performance in developmental traits and the feeding pigs by the increased meat and feeding qualities comparing to the pigs from the boars with qq genotype.
Key words: Byelorussian Large White breed of pigs, gene Igf2, polymorphism, feeding and meat qualities.
