ABOUT CHANGES OF MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS IN ROOTED CELERY DURING INDUCED MUTAGENESIS

M.I. Ivanova1, S.L. Karanova2, V.A. Ludilov1

On three varieties of rooted celery with various time of ripening (Mentor, Albin and Diamant) the authors studied the effect of the treatment of dry and swollen seeds by N-nitroso-N-methyl urea solutions on biometric indices of M1-M4 plants in connection with concentration and duration mutagen application. As a result the ratio between the size of stem and root changes, that permit to obtain during breeding in M4 constant mutants with orbicular storage root, very low branch root, without hollowness and acetabuliform roots through rapid occurrence of homozygosity on mutations.

Keywords: celeriac, induced mutagenesis, morphological traits, homozygosity.
